What does Kartuu do?

A customer buys a voucher in your shop and fills in, at the time of purchase, who it is for, who it is from and what it should say. Once the order is paid, Kartuu creates a real Shopify gift card and sets the text on a folding card in your colours, with your logo and one of six templates. The card goes to the recipient as a PDF.

Is the voucher a real Shopify gift card?

For an amount voucher, yes. Kartuu creates the gift card through Shopify; it is redeemed at checkout like any other, and the balance sits with Shopify, not with us.

For a service voucher, no. That one stands for a service rather than an amount — "3 hours of massage" — and is redeemed with you, not at the checkout. There is no gift card and no balance for it.

Do I need my own mail server?

Yes. Kartuu sends the finished card through your own SMTP account, which you enter under Administration. There is no shared mailbox: an email that goes out in your shop's name should come from your shop.

Without SMTP everything else still works — the purchase, the card, the gift card. You just hand the voucher over yourself.

Can the buyer choose when the voucher arrives?

Yes. They pick a day at checkout, and Kartuu holds the delivery back until then.

Does the recipient have to print anything?

No — the redemption code is in the email and on the card. But the card is built as a folding card: one A4 sheet, folded once or crosswise, with folding instructions. Anyone who wants to give it rather than forward it prints it.

What happens if I cancel Kartuu?

Vouchers already issued stay valid. The gift cards sit with Shopify and are untouched by a cancellation, and the claim pages stay reachable.

Two things are blocked after a cancellation: setting up a new voucher product, and downloading a proof copy as a PDF.

What happens on a cancellation or refund?

Kartuu deactivates the matching gift card in Shopify. A cancelled purchase should not leave a balance behind.

What language does Kartuu appear in?

Two settings, and they are deliberately separate:

• The interface you see follows the language setting of your Shopify account. German and English.
• Cards and emails follow the output language you set under Settings.

The separation is intentional: an English-speaking staff member should not accidentally switch your shop's cards.

How many vouchers may I issue?

There is no cap and no tier. The plan is a flat monthly fee.

Do I have to create the voucher product myself?

No. Kartuu creates it with all its variants, the product image and the fields where the buyer enters the name, the greeting and the recipient's address.

One step is yours: for customers to see the product, it must be published to your online store in Shopify. Kartuu does not publish anything by itself.
